The Packers are starting to get healthy as they approach the second preseason game approaches. A total of eleven players returned to practice in some capacity on Sunday afternoon.
Injury Report: LT David Bakhtiari (ankle), WR Randall Cobb (ankle), TE Jimmy Graham (knee), RT Bryan Bulaga (knee), RB Aaron Jones (hamstring), DT Mike Daniels (thigh), DL Muhammad Wilkerson (groin), CB Kevin King (shoulder), CB Jaire Alexander (groin), S Josh Jones (concussion) and FB Joe Kerridge (shoulder) all returned to practice on Sunday.
Bakhtiari, Bulaga, Daniels, Jones, King, and Lane Taylor appeared to be limited in practice.
RB Devante Mays (hamstring), LB Nick Perry (ankle), S Jermaine Whitehead (back), and WR Trevor Davis (hamstring) were held out of practice on Sunday.
News & Notes: Quarterback Aaron Rodgers took the first team reps in both team periods against the number one defense. Rodgers was taking scout team reps ahead of last week’s preseason game, and did not play against the Titans.
RT Bryan Bulaga took reps during team period for the first time since returning from a torn ACL.
LB Reggie Gilbert got firs team reps opposite Clay Matthews on Sunday. Gilbert had an impressive game against the Titans, and got a shot to work with the first team defense of Kyler Fackrell.
Practice ended with a pair of deep balls from Tim Boyle to Jake Kumerow, and DeShone Kizer to Davante Adams in the pass under pressure period.
They Said It: Mike McCarthy on evaluating the first preseason game – “The biggest thing for us is the mental errors. There’s a lot of good tape. We really like the starting point particularly in the pursuit, cover and finish of the offense and defense, but the mental errors should go down because now the fact is that you’re going to focus on a practice week that is exclusively cards. We’re going to have competitive drills in tomorrow’s practice.”
David Bakhtiari on going through an ankle injury during training camp – “If it’s going to happen, I’d rather have it happen now than happen in season. Then I got to deal with it, going out there potentially limping around when playing in a game and run. I can rest up and make sure the wheel is ready to go when it truly matters to your win-loss record.”
Kevin King on need to play in preseason games – “Do I feel like I need to play in the preseason? Yes. If I didn’t, would I still be ready week one? Yes. Every time the Packers go out there to play I want to be suited up and out there playing. I ain’t been here long enough not to play in the preseason like that. Whenever they out there, I want to be out there.”
